Falck Nutec has acquired a majority interest in the Alford Group, a leading provider of a range of training and safety services to the offshore oil and gas industry in the US Gulf of Mexico. The acquisition provides Falck Nutec with a solid platform to pursue further business activities in the US and the region.
Alford is the leading US Gulf of Mexico provider of safety training, safety personnel and safety related services, including a patented safe enclosure for hazardous welding.
Founded in 1996, the business has grown considerably and offers a wide range of safety training courses, for example water survival, marine training, crane and lifting, fire fighting and first aid courses. Its safety personnel include firewatch, logistics, project consultants, emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
Alford is based in Houma, Louisiana, west of New Orleans and operates training centres in Lafayette, New Orleans and Houma in addition to its sales office in Houston. Further, Alford is present in Angola and Trinidad & Tobago. The Alford Group has almost 300 employees, of which app. 100 are working off-shore.
In future, the business will be branded Falck Alford, and we foresee Falck Alford approval to the international OPITO standards in the first quarter of 2009.
Among Falck Alford’s services is the patented safe welding enclosure system, Hazardous Atmospheric Zone Telemetry (HAZTEC). This is an automated monitoring and control system, offering a safe enclosure, where welding can be performed in hazardous locations. The process eliminates shut-in time for platforms offering oil majors the key benefit of no loss of production during repairs and maintenance.
Falck Alford foresees significant cross-selling opportunities, and the addition of HAZTEC to the Falck Nutec Training portfolio adds an important dimension to Falck Nutec’s position as a global provider of safety services.
With the new ownership of Falck Alford, Falck Nutec significantly expands its global presence, which will include operations in Denmark, Norway, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, USA, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago, Nigeria and Angola.
